Baby This Love I Have… for The Decoders

Whoa. This week seems so boring compared to last week in LA. This week my supervisor put me on a Los Angeles-based band called the Decoders. I can’t believe this is my first time hearing about them! So bummed I missed them at the Hammer. They do amazing covers of classics like That’s The Way Of The World, Walk On By with Noelle Scaggs of Fitz and the Tantrums, Everybody Loves the Sunshine with Seu Jorge, and Hey There Lonely Boy with one of my favorite vocalists right now Miss Coco O of Quadron. I’m really diggin the Lovers Rock twist to all these timeless cuts especially this one right here:

DJ Spinna breaks down Little Brother on BLING47

“Dilla is often known for like finding the best moments of records, or his drum programming, or even some of the bass lines that he’s programmed. But when you take it back to straight raw loops, à la Donuts, you know a lot of stuff that he did for the Donuts record, for example, or Ruff Draft taking it back to that essence. When you’re able to pull out a record and like chop it up into its and bits, scramble it, and rearrange it, put it together to make it sound like a totally different record, I think that’s genius.” – DJ Spinna

One of my fav DJs, DJ Spinna, recreates Blackstar’s track “Little Brother” produced by none other than Jay Dee.
