Whoa. This week seems so boring compared to last week in LA. This week my supervisor put me on a Los Angeles-based band called the Decoders. I can’t believe this is my first time hearing about them! So bummed I missed them at the Hammer. They do amazing covers of classics like That’s The Way Of The World, Walk On By with Noelle Scaggs of Fitz and the Tantrums, Everybody Loves the Sunshine with Seu Jorge, and Hey There Lonely Boy with one of my favorite vocalists right now Miss Coco O of Quadron. I’m really diggin the Lovers Rock twist to all these timeless cuts especially this one right here:
Which is a cover of this:
Which is sampled by this:
Peep their Soundcloud for more tracks.
I can’t believe it. I swear I was pining for summer not too long ago.
Lovin this mix by Astronautica for HW&W. Basically a dope mix of that ever evolving summer playlist mixed with some new gems to keep ya head noddin.
I’m terrible at blogging but here’s an update.
Last week, I saw Sergio Mendes at the Hollywood Bowl! He was seriously amazing. I like to refer to him as one of the Godfathers of my musical soul.
Upcoming events that I will be attending:
These two at Rose Bowl on Sunday. Need I say more?
Mad excited to see Melbourne-based, neo-soul band Hiatus Kaiyote at the Bootleg Theater.
Jose James for the FIGat7th Downtown Festival. FREE. Tickets here.
This lineup got me hyped forreal! I’m excited to see Disclosure, TNGHT, Baauer (missed him at Coachella wah), Flying Lotus, Breakbot (last year he wasn’t as funky but I have faith), Floss, Justice, and everyone else. Wish Bondax was comin thru, I was really looking forward to seein the two chaps live.
Gilles is like a musical kindred spirit. His musical selection transcends genres, eras, and geographical boundaries. I’m so bummed I missed his Sonos Studios session yesterday, but I am definitely excited that he’ll be at theLift this Saturday. The last time he was at theLIFT in 2011, I was blown away. See ya under the giant mirror ball!

On Sunday night, LA got a special treat. Dwight finally made his debut at Staples. Kendrick Lamar dropped his debut album. After the show got shut down, we saw Kendrick hangin out the sunroof cruisin down Fig in a dope ride havin a Pac moment. GKMC is an amazing display of Kendrick’s lyrical prowess and masterful storytelling. People think he’s the 2pac of our generation. Hate to compare the guy but there are definitely similarities. Kendrick is definitely in his own lane and I’d say he’s a definitive voice of our generation. For now I will be bumpin this instant classic in the streets of LA. WEST WEST BABY!
No pictures cuz my phone died womp.
